Mycotoxin Testing
Mycotoxins are secondary metabolites produced by certain species of mold (fungi). Over 400 species of mycotoxins have been identified thus far, most of which have proven to be cytotoxic (causing acute symptoms upon consumption or inhalation). However, only a handful have been prevalent and toxic enough to be a concern for human health.
Anresco Laboratories tests for all mycotoxins mandated by the California Department of Cannabis Control (DCC). For all cannabis product types, that includes testing for Aflatoxins (B1, B2, G1, G2) and Ochratoxin A via Liquid-Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Aflatoxins AFLATOXINS (B1, B2. G1, G2)
Aflatoxins are considered one of the most potent carcinogenic compounds known to humans. Generally produced by certain species of Aspergillus (particularly Aspergillus flavus and Apergillus parasiticus), they are regularly found in products that have been improperly stored. Favorable growing conditions include high humidity, high temperature climates, and other stressful conditions such as drought.
OCHRATOXIN A
Ochratoxin A is a highly prolific mycotoxin commonly produced by certain species of Aspergillus and Penicillium. Suspected to be a carcinogen, exposure to Ochratoxin A has been shown to be immunotoxic and severely damaging to the kidneys and liver. Because of its resistance to heat and acidity, many industrial processes are ineffective in removing contamination and detoxification can be difficult to achieve.
