Pesticide Residue Screening
Anresco has run pesticide residue analyses for over 40 years and is expert at testing a variety of matrices including fruits, produce, spices, and processed goods. Anresco runs both “Luke” and “QuEChERS” multi-residue analyses (MRAs) as well as specific pesticide compounds such as glyphosate. The “Luke” MRA has been the standard FDA method for over 20 years and is adequate for capturing most older pesticides. The “QuEChERS” MRA is a relatively young method developed by the USDA that can detect many newer pesticides.
The US EPA performs risk assessments for pesticides to determine whether they can be used safely without endangering human health. From this data, they determine pesticide tolerance levels, also known as maximum residue limits (MRLs), which are the maximum permitted levels of pesticide that can remain in or on a target food. The US FDA is responsible for monitoring and enforcing these tolerances for raw agricultural materials and processed foods, while the USDA has the same responsibilities for meat, poultry, and certain dairy products. While regular testing of food products is ethically justified, both the FDA and USDA have demonstrated an inability to perform adequate testing in a cost-efficient manner on their own. That’s why third-party laboratories, like Anresco, have proven themselves vital to maintaining the integrity of the country’s food supply. Contact us to get your quote.
