Hemp Testing
Anresco Laboratories offers comprehensive hemp testing services to ensure the safety and efficacy of hemp biomass, oils, powders, and other products. In addition to providing routine QA testing services, Anresco has the expertise to help cultivators navigate California state regulations as well as interim federal regulations as recently issued by USDA.
California Compliance Testing
In 2013, The California Industrial Hemp Farming Act was signed into law, effectively authorizing the commercial production of industrial hemp in California. To read the complete text on current regulations, please refer to the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) website.
Pre-Harvest Test Process
- Submit a Pre-Harvest Report to your county agricultural commissioner at least 45 days prior to the anticipated harvest date.
- The name and contact information of your selected ISO 17025 accredited testing laboratory shall be included in this report.
- The commissioner, or a third-party sampler designated by the commissioner, shall schedule a sampling date within 30 calendar days of the anticipated harvest date, but no later than 11 calendar days prior to the anticipated harvest start date listed on the pre-harvest report.
- Any changes to the Pre-Harvest Report must be notified to the commissioner no less than 5 calendar days prior to the scheduled sampling date.
- Samples shall be delivered to the designated laboratory within 24 hours of collection. For samples delivered to Anresco Laboratories, results will be available within 4 business days.
- The Total THC content of the harvest lot must be equal to or less than 0.3%. Registrants may proceed with harvesting upon receipt of a passing laboratory test report.

Federal Compliance Testing
On October 29th, 2019, the USDA released interim regulations regarding the production and testing of hemp. Although still preliminary and subject to change upon commentary from the public, the effective date for compliance has already begun. To read the complete text of the interim final rule, please refer to the Federal Register website. Below is a brief summary of testing requirements as currently stated:
- Sampling must occur within 15 days prior to the anticipated harvest date by a Federal, State, local, or Tribal law enforcement agency.
- Testing of the samples for total THC content must be performed by a DEA registered laboratory.
- Representative testing of the harvest lot must demonstrate a Total THC content equal to or less than three-tenths of 1 percent (0.3%).
